What is Facebook?
Facebook is a social networking website where people can set up personal profiles, connect with friends, and share information with their entire social network.
Facebook used to be restricted to college students, but has since opened to everyone, so it has now become a marketing and mass communication tool for many businesses, from Coca-Cola to movie studios.
Facebook has many of the features seen at other, similar social media websites:
Twitter – micro-blogging or status updates
Tumblr – blogging within a social network
Foursquare – “checking in” to locations in the real world (basically, sharing your present location with your friends and other people online)
